Sounds like Tee made some podcasting foes whilst at Balticon. I think he might want to be watching his back, but whatever it is that PG, Chris and Pip have in mind I’ll be watching… and listening. No offense JC but this almost sounds more interesting than Obsidian (I kid. I kid).
Take a listen while the plot against Tee slowly unfolds…
Hello darlinks. We’re going to start a new weekly feature on the site today. Movie Trivia!! Blame my husband, he wanted trivia questions for work and I’m growing a collection. I promise we won’t leave you hanging with just some silly pre-written trivia posts on Saturdays; later today you’ll get me gushing about the first instalment of Obsidian.
That’s right folks, Obsidian drops today and I’ve got my IV all hooked up and waiting to be opened. In the meantime, I’ll leave you with the first of the trivia questions. Feel free to leave your answer in the comments.
1. This Goonie gained poundage to play Samwise in the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
A - Billy Boyd
B - Sean Astin
C - Elijah Wood
D - Dominic Monaghan
Answer will be posted with next week’s trivia question and I’ll be back later with my take on the Obsidian goodness.
I first ran into the voice of one Indiana Jim while listening to Billibub Baddings and the Case of the Singing Sword. Since then I have heard multiple promos for his work and heard him act in other podcasts. It took me a while to track down his own work, finally getting the web address from him in Twitter, and was quite happy with what I heard when finally tuning into his podcast.
Thesis A Fantasy is the first of the items I found and I enjoyed it immensely. I think that every cliché from every fantasy world has been touched on in this work. I heard everything from comments about Star Wars to Dorothy’s “There’s no place like home,” within the confines of twenty-two minutes. I laughed my arse off while listening to Thesis and have gone back to listen to it a few more times. Near as I can tell the story is about a family man/writer who has a Wizard of Oz moment…
What am I trying to do? It is completely impossible to try and dissect the elements of Thesis. The whole things is skillfully written and fun to listen to, something I’m very happy I found and will keep me listening to Indiana Jim’s adventures.
Need a laugh, go listen. See if you can count all the literary references, I bet you’ll be laughing too hard to do so. I know I was.
So, I’m sitting here at work.. bored out of my skull. Sure, I should be working on this order in front of me.. sure, I should be entering all these approvals into the spreadsheet so the team can work on them. But.. Man I’m just all kinds of stupid distracted.
Kinda’ reminds me of when I worked for the state. Things would get really slow and boring sometimes, and I’d sneak in a book or something to read.
Hmm? What was that? “What kind of book?” you ask? Well, back then I was reading a lot of Rick Riordan. My buddy Laird got me hooked on his Tres Nevarre series.
Okay- check this out: English professor, Tai Chi master, private eye in San Antonio.
Come on! How much more bas@$$ can you get than that? Seriously? Mister Riordan’s novels have this really fun, ironic and tongue-in-cheek kinda’ humor to them that-
Well, it’s kinda’ like a drug. Good thing he’s got, like, seven books in the Tres Nevarre series. Keep that high going!
He’s also got a series for young adults. (his site says “books for children”, but I’ve seen some of these books, and they’re BIG! Like- thick! So, I think more Young Adult. Anyway, I’ve not yet gotten to look at any of those, but they also seem pretty neat.
So, there ya go. If you’re bored and stuff and want a book to hide under the desk at work. Check out something by Rick Riordan. OOH and totally check out the cat! I think that damn cat is the best character EVAR!
What a long, strange week it’s been. We celebrated Sloane’s birthday with a nice, rich devil’s food cake that had a bittersweet mocha glaze. A glass of wine to go with a kick arse batch of chicken and dumplings (the recipe for which you can find in Comfort Cooking).
Nick is getting moved in and enjoying his place, it’s a great little den where I foresee much creativity and podcasting coming from. He’s all set on his site to begin his podcast, soon as he gets his recording done. Piggy Moto: All Star Boar Band is an absolutely fantastic story that I’ve had the pleasure of editing and reading for him. I definitely encourage you to check the site and check often and I’ll let you know here when the podcast starts.
The King of Viral Media has been working over time while we were on hiatus. JC Hutchins released a bunch of Obsidian posters into the wild, a lot of neat designs. I’m anxious for the 31st to arrive so I can partake in the Obsidian goodness.
I spent the hiatus with my nose buried in bodice rippers. I don’t think I’ve listened to a single podcast since last Monday, mind I have A Brobdingnagian Minute going at the moment. I went through my small collection of Bertrice Small novels, her grasp of historical romance is simply wonderful, and is one of the best romance writers around. I admit my enjoyment of her books comes forth because she paints her characters over a historical landscape instead of changing history to suit her characters. The novel Skye O’Malley is a perfect example of this and if you know a fan of the bodice ripper genre I recommend it as a gift.
Currently I’m reading Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. Diana is probably my absolute favorite fiction writers. The Outlander saga, currently consisting of six epic novels, is a time travel fiction series that takes place in post WW1 and the Jacobite Revolution of 18th Century Scotland. Well researched and absolutely fascinating books which I read about once a year.
Finally saw Transformers, oh holy balls! Words cannot convey what I thought of this film, the fact that I’ve watched bits and pieces of it everyday since Saturday must say something. It easily became one of those movies I’ll turn on when I see it’s playing on cable. Love Bumblebee, always have, and I think my favorite scene is when he upgrades in the tunnel. The movie rocked! I’ll have a full review up by week’s end but I can promise you it’s ranked a lot of penguins.
The site, if you’re reading this through and RSS feed, has been completely redone. I sort of blew it up recently trying to remove something I had added to a sidebar. You can bet that I’ll be taking better precautions next time. I design websites you think I would know better than to not copy something before I change it. Live and learn. The new theme is more of what I was shooting for when I first began Time Well Wasted last year and I’m very happy with it. You’ll note there are some things missing, like the adsense ads, the cookbook cover and the popcorn fund buttons. Of those only the donation button will return, probably before the end of the week.
So that’s how I spent my Memorial Day hiatus. How did you spend yours?
JC Hutchins just plain terrifies me at this point. The man is a marketing genius and as horrible as John Alpha might be, can he really be any worse than the other candidates?
John Alpha for President. You can read all about his blossoming campaign here and even pick up a free bumper sticker to show your support.
Don’t know who John Alpha is? Have you been living under a rock? Go listen to 7th Son. Shoo. Before the Devlen making me write …
-end of line-
Bitch enough to people about free music sites demanding money and someone will point you to something better.
In this case, the better is Spiralfrog and the pointer was my dad. He and I were discussing music, one of our favorite topics and I told him about the mess with Last.fm. He in turn told me about Spiralfrog. The name alone tickled me pink.
I’m still checking out all the features on this site and learning how to make it play music for me if I don’t want to download it all. If any of you have used it before I’d love some pointers. What I like about this site, aside from being FREE, is its got a nice selection of music. True, it doesn’t have the massive selection that some music sites have, but it lets you download full albums to your computer. Additionally, as far as I can tell, these can be played on any media play, though they can only be played on select MP3 players (which are listed on the site).
Spiralfrog isn’t perfect, the music you download, while free, is tagged with DRM, which does give it some limitations. Primary limitation is that its locked to YOUR computer and YOUR MP3 player. Anyone else trying to take it off your system and play it on their own is doomed, at least that how DRM was explained to me. I’m hardly omnipotent and am often wrong. Hey I admit to being a techtard, which would be why I converse with my dad as much as I do. This would also be why you read more about entertainment and not how to access your entertainment.
There is not cost to the user, it really IS free, which is just awesome. You are required to register and renew every 30 days, but the only information you ever have to give them is your username and password, that’s all they want. To download the music to your harddrive you do have to download a little widget that takes next to no space, am guessing this widget is how it ensures you don’t go sending this music to your best friend and letting them play it.
So I’m going to go play with this program some more, and I encourage you to check it out. I would love to know what you think of it if you decide to use it. In the meantime, I’ll just enjoy some Reba McEntire and ignore the “ews” from the country haters.
I’m still catching up from my own blackout and it had nothing to do with Emperor Hutchins‘ will this time. Lost within my own cablelessness I missed the promo for 7th Son Obsidian Wednesday and you all know how much I love pimping these people to you. Not to mention how anxious I am to get lost within the world of 7th Son again.
So, I’m considering this promo to be the start of my saline drip and only hope it lasts till May 31st. Enjoy. I know I will.
HOOO BOY! The weather last night was CRAZY here! I was visiting GeminiFatcat when the weather went to HELLZORS! It was crazy. There were tornado warnings and stuff. Crazy Crazy. We ended up holed up in her inside bathroom with her three cats waiting for her husband to get home and for the storms to break long enough for me to run away and try to beat the next cell nack to my own home. Crazy stuff. (Gem here - we lost the cable service for over 24 hours after that storm, hence the delay with the post.)
So… speaking of crazy.. let’s discuss Salad Fingers, shall we?
I think that this Mister David Firth guy was probably dropped once or thrice as a little baby.. or.. maybe spent a night of two in a grave.. or something because this Salad Fingers thing.. is FREAKIN CREEPY AS HELL!!!!! it’s a flash animation about a character named, predictably enough, Salad Fingers (I’m guessing) and each episode gets progressively more bothersome.
I’m serious. I was showing some Salad Fingers to Gem and she made me shut it off after just two shows!
I don’t EVEN know what else to say about this but GO.. Check it out.. Especially at night when you’re alone in the house and it’s dark out. Totally. Creepier than Freddy Kreuger!
