Nemesis Part 2 (Obsidian 18)

   Posted by: Gemini   in Podcasting

I have only one word to sum up my thoughts on the second half of Nemesis.  It won’t be the only word I use, but it’s the lump sum.

Predictable.

This, regrettably, weakened a very strong story.  I liked the first half of Nemesis, and I liked parts of the second half, but was saddened by what I perceived as weaknesses in the tale.

The last quarter of the episode seemed disjointed and rushed, leading down rabbit holes of confusion.  And the end of it just had my head spinning with a total WTF?!  I could have missed something in the half dozen times I’ve listened to both parts of the story, something that would have cleared up the mind fogging that I felt with the end of part two, and if I did I would like someone to clear up the end for me.  Please?

Even though I’m not fond of how Nemesis was completed, I cannot say anything against Mark Yoshimoto Nemcoff’s writing on the whole.  He is a very strong writer and makes it easy to see some of these things in your head as its being read.  There are some things too easily seen, and a bit gratuitous.  The story seems to have gone from badass psychological thriller in part one to gore fest and confusion in later part of part two, still it was a tightly written and read gore fest.

There’s a good chance, too, that I may have picked up on a missing piece or two had I been reading it instead of listening.  Much as I’m enjoying all the podcasts I listen to, I still find it easier to put puzzles together when I’m reading a thriller.  Maybe we can talk JC into releasing Obsidian as a published anthology too? :)

Back on topic, like the first half, part two clocks in at about 40 minutes and is, again, not suitable for kiddies.  I would recommend headphones if you have tykes around.  Listen, enjoy, repeat and then go tell Mark how you felt about it.  I am, after all, just one voice in the darkness.
