For fantasy genre readers the name Marion Zimmer Bradley is usually a familiar one. It may be known among the science fiction readers due to her popular Darkover series. Marion also helped introduce new authors to the world with the Sword and Sorceress anthology. It was a tragic loss to the world of writing when she passed on, but she left her readers with many good books and good memories.
Of all of them, however, The Firebrand is a novel that escaped notice for many. It’s a personal favorite of mine, more so than the very well known Mists of Avalon.
Firebrand tells the story of Kassandra, the prophetess who was never to believed, and her part in the Fall of Troy. All the usual suspects are involved, Paris, Helen, Achilles, Hector, and more. The story that she wove took the classic Aegean Mythos and improved upon it.
Out of all the books she wrote, and the many I read, I do think this is one of her most well written and I hope you’ll find time to enjoy it yourself. If you have enjoyed the book, please share why or name your favorite character/scene in the comments. I love knowing how others feel about the things I enjoy.

Sorry folks. Madam Dumb Arse left her notebook work. She’s taking LIVE calls tomorrow for the first time and didn’t even grab it on the way out. She’s a little stressed.
Yeah I know I said new content today on Twitter. See the above. I’m totally stressing about tomorrow, and more concerned about disappointing my partner as we take our first calls. I have a week left in training, and I’m looking for a few more content writers. I am trying to keep this going, and I’m thinking once training is over things will get more lively around here.
In the meantime, if I could recomend a few things – Dark Knight, New World Orders and Piggy Moto. Watch, listen, enjoy and I’ll get some real content up ASAP. Thank you for you patience.
Nick posted this one in June and I’ve finally tuned in. This story is amazing and I’m on pins and needles waiting for the next part to drop. You’ll get my review later, but for now, check out “You Gotta See This” in the sidebar and give a listen to New World Orders. That is, unless, you want Samuel Tan ordering your death.
I don’t like political drama mumbo jumbo – presidents and spies and rich people who have too many rubber duckies for their own good. PLEH!
That having been said, I’m listening to Edward G. Talbot’s New World Orders I was a little leery at first, but this thing gripped REAL quick.. RIGHT inside the guts. So.. Yeah.
The world is all burnies- destroyed and stuff; there’s a huge conspiracy going on; and there’s JUST enough creative historical speculation to make me go: “HOLEY CARPTURDS! DOUBLE TEA EFF?!!”
I don’t really know where to begin describing the plot.. *thinks* Okay, you know all those global energy conspiracy theories? Well, they are really going on. Cold fusion, moon landing, oil embargos. they are real, and there is ONE man behind it all (well, a man and his group of cohorts). The world is going to end, they know how and pretty much when, and they are cashing in.
Well, enter the tabloid editor. He gets a weird call from some wormy N.A.S.A guy who puts a bug in his ear and gets his noodle going. And thus the ball starts rolling!
The pacing is comfortable, the scenes are quick enough to keep interest and intrigue brewing, and the writing is pretty durn tight! *squinty look* I don’t quite know what to make of the intro music.. and the outro music makes it sound like I’m wandering down 6th street in Austin on Friday Night. But the scene break sound *Pshooooom* it AWESOME!
There aren’t 5,000,000,000 characters to think about too, which I REALLY like. just a couple – good ones at that. there are a couple plot lines going on, and like I said, the pacing really makes it easy to follow along.
Now, THIS story isn’t finished yet, so you can still get in on it pretty close to the ground floor. There’s even some Audience input forums, so we can all take part. I started listening out of curiosity today, and I’ve not turned it off since. You better believe this one is going into my Subscribe list!
Anyway. I’ve blathered enough for now. Great stuff, well chosen narrative voice (imho), fun and talented performance- just great stuff. Check it out. get in on the ground floor. Listen and subscribe. tell your friends.

The Perfect Movie for Keanu Reeves. He doesn’t even have to emote! Cause it was all rotoscoped for him.
It’s REALLY hard to talk about this flic without dropping spoilers. So I’ma just go for it.
The movie begins on a dubious note. On one hand, it’s a Harry Potter about a dude my age, which is cool. On the other hand, he’s a ridiculous, impossible genius – under / overachiever. The kind of guy I could never have been even if I HAD applied myself in high school. Or crapped money enough to attend college for 12 years after graduating.

The bit part star cast seemed enticing at first, but it falls apart immediately. When the bad guy first appears, it’s just like watching Paul Mua’dib in a weird .. d20 Modern game.

I think The Librarian was one of the movies that NetFlix said I’d enjoy – based, apparently, on the fact that I said I enjoyed searing hot colonics and rusty needle acupuncture. Ooh and Muzak. Plinky, plinky muzak – and Pink Panther antics. Because this is one of the stupidest – most stupid … dumbest piece of crap. Ever.
I can’t even begin to describe how terribly shitty this movie was. But, I shall try anyway.

Okay, you know how in my CloverSuck review, I likened that piece of donkey droppings to a mish-mash of all the things that once worked in scary movies? Well, we get the same thing with this piece of slug excrement. They took every sight gag, every cliché every cheap chuckle and crammed it all into one production. Complete with ripped-off scenes and re-hashed puzzles. Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!

Is this movie supposed to inspire dorky kids to get out more? Or, is it meant to inspire dumb kids to read more? Ooh! Ooh! Or maybe, it’s meant to get grown ups to pry out our own eyeballs with bits of cactus. I feel like I’m watching Spongebob.

I mean, I guess it could be a fun movie to sit down to with your less than socially adept children, were it not for the whole murder and soul-sucking scene in the end. Oh, then there’s the “Guess what they’re doing in bed together now!” scene near the end. And the ever popular “The hero has to poop” scene.
[The end. Wow.. Reaching the closing credits was damn near orgasmic. Am I a massochist now?]
I would like to find the writers for this one and.. well, pack them full of cactus and freshly zested lemons. I know the blog is called Time Well Wasted, but – ladies and gentlemen – this movie is without a doubt a waste of time. Not worth it. This DVD belongs not in my DVD player, but in my microwave.
The ONLY reason I do not give this absolute bottom marks, is because it’s not offensive. I was not offended. Just very, very, very, very, VERY friggin annoyed.

The ABCs fo Entertainment will be up when I get home from work, I left the draft there.
Right now, if you’re in desperate need of something entertaining you need to run over to AMC’s MonsterFest and check out the FDO’s comentary on Chucky. Considering Seed of Chucky is the only one I’ve seen, I have to confess to having giggled my butt off. But, since it’s from Scott Sigler, you know you’re in for a good read.

Okay, Reign of Fire. Movie about dragons in the post apocalyptic world. Yeah yeah yeah, I know, dragons are gonna be big bad, evil bla bla. Some smart human’s gonna kill them all.. Bla Bla Bla.
I tried to watch this movie with the computer nearby so that I could take notes as it played. But, 15 minutes into this cinematic laxative, I ran out of ram with which to make snide comments.
Dumb premise. Lots of dumb people. Lots of stupid mistakes. Pretty good action. Oooh, and it takes an American to figure out how to save the day.
Well, this would have been great as a pilot for some dragon-hunty TV show. But, as a stand-alone movie, it was pretty lame and anticlimactic.
